Telluride, Colorado is one of my absolute favorite places to visit. During the summer, it’s a much-needed break from the Texas heat and there are so many activities and events going on that I never get bored. From shopping in town to hiking up mountain trails, Telluride has something for literally everyone…especially in the sweet summertime.
Jeep tours in Telluride are an extremely popular activity for a reason: they are exhilarating and a thrill-ride. The Jeep tours are like riding a roller coaster up the mountain and are not for the faint of heart. If you like adventure and adrenaline, then this a great activity for you! The view from the top of the mountain is worth the bumpy ride up. These tours can be scheduled through the Telluride Sports shop in town at their adventure desk.
Mountain Village Shops
Mountain Village is a short (and free) gondola ride from Telluride. The views from the gondola are worth the trip to Mountain Village alone, but once you are there, walk around to all of the shops and restaurants in the village! It’s a cute area of town that has its own selection of things to do and places to see. You can also hike down from Mountain Village back into Telluride if you are looking for something active to do.
There are an endless number of festivals in town during the summer months, so you are bound to run into one during your stay. Beginning in June, there is a music series in Mountain Village called Free Sunset Concert Series, which is every Wednesday night at sundown. Bring a blanket and a bottle of wine to enjoy the free concerts, which are usually laid back jazz and blues artists.
One of my favorite concert series in town is the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, which takes place in the middle of June. You have to buy tickets in advance for this festival, so check the calendar to see if this falls on the weekend of your visit.
If you’re a movie aficionado, you probably already know about the Telluride Film Festival, which attracts hundreds of film fans and celebrities. This occurs every year during Labor Day weekend. If you attend, you will watch a multitude of award bound movies before anyone else in the public gets to see them. Word on the street is that James Franco is a frequent attendee of the festival…which is reason enough to attend!

Bear Creek Falls
This is a hiking trail that you can access from the town of Telluride. It is one of my favorite trails because it is challenging but almost anyone can do it. I have seen everything from young children, to older couples, trotting down the mountain…which is a little disheartening when I am struggling to make it to the summit. The hike to the falls takes around 45 minutes, so it is a quick afternoon activity!
The “Bike Path”
This path begins in the town of Telluride, and is a relatively flat trail alongside the river where you can mountain bike for the afternoon. There are some challenging parts, but overall it is an enjoyable ride! You can rent bikes in town from a number of places, but I would recommend Boot Doctors, Paragon Ski & Sports, or Telluride Sports.
Personally, one of my favorite things about Telluride are the restaurants. There are so many amazing places to eat, but I always frequent a few special places because I can’t get over how great their food is.
Yum. Yum. Yum. This pizza place is in the middle of Main street and will never disappoint. Their pizzas are all decadent and delicious, and you can even find a variety of other types of food on the menu (personally, buffalo wings are always a good go-to item).
If you’re in the mood for Thai, then Siam is the place to go. You might want to make a reservation here, since the actual restaurant is a little on the small side, but it is absolutely worth it! The main restaurant is in the town of Telluride, but there is also a second location in Mountain Village if you don’t want to wait as long!
After a long day of hiking, this is where I always beeline to. Smugglers has just what you need to refuel and relax, from great burgers to a big selection of local beer.
This is a new restaurant in town so I have only been there a handful of times, but I have yet to be disappointed! They have craft cocktails (I always get the Blueberry Vodka martini) and a selection of interesting bar food (brussel sprouts are a must).
Bridal Veil Falls
This is another hiking trail in town. The trail is a little more challenging than Bear Creek, but the views are spectacular and you will stumble upon the tallest free-falling waterfall in Colorado!
Fly Fishing Excursion
Telluride is an ideal place for anglers because of the big rivers that flow through the town. There are many shops in town that will take you out on a guided trip, like Telluride Anglers. There are four public river areas to choose from, or you can even go out on private waters if you’re lucky!
Main Street Shopping
This is an important one. The shopping in Telluride is great. Not only are there a multitude of different types of shops in town, simply wandering around the main street and looking at all of the swanky shops is entertaining. You can find me in Two Skirts Boutique everyday of the week when I am visiting!
Horseback riding adventures in Telluride vary from day trips, overnight trips, dinner rides, and chuckwagon excursions. Riding around the San Juan Mountain Range is breathtaking, and definitely worth an afternoon or whole day of your vacation. There are many places in town that offer horseback riding trips, which you can check out here.
Telluride is a great place year round, but the summertime holds a special place in my heart. If it’s for a week, or even a weekend, you are bound to find so many wonderful things to do!
